Learning a foreign language, knowledge of EU legislation and standards - these are the professional training needs of specialists involved in the functions of fulfilling Ukraine's commitments in the European integration area. This was stated by Nataliia Aliushyna, the Head of the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service, during a meeting with partners in development to discuss support for the Government of Ukraine on its European integration process.

According to Nataliia Aliushyna, in 2023, the High School of Public Governance implemented 18 training programmes in the field of European integration and provided professional development to 1496 civil servants in this field. Cooperation with various educational institutions from EU member states involved in the training of civil servants has been established.

An example of successful and effective international cooperation is the collaboration between the NAUCS, the Government Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Natolin4Capacity Building project, and the College of Europe in Natolin. More than 6,000 civil servants have been trained on the Natolin4Capacity Building educational platform in 16 online courses on various aspects of EU functioning.

Today, providers of professional training offer about 100 professional training programmes on European integration. They are aimed at improving the competences of civil servants and implementing European principles and standards in public administration. Last year, almost 12,500 civil servants were trained in these programmes.

According to the Head of the Agency, the highest request from civil servants is to learn English. In 2023, the NAUCS, together with the international educational organisation EF Language Learning Solutions, launched the Eng4PublicService project.  It aims to strengthen the English language skills of civil servants. More than 19,000 civil servants from 950 government agencies are already studying English as part of the project. The total number of certificates of advanced training is over 12,000.
